Privacy Policy

This policy describes the data collected during a visit, the reasons it may be used, and the limited cases in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Howard County Criminal History, you agree to the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates the tool. That provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained so we can respond. We keep the message within our organization unless a legal duty requires disclosure to someone else.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers automatically receive basic technical information when a visitor loads a page:

  • Page-view times and the pages visited
  • The device's assigned IP address
  • Browser name and version
  • Operating system and device type
  • Time spent on visited pages
  • The referring site, when one is supplied

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic in aggregate, such as which pages draw visits and where sessions end. A browser can block cookies at any time, although some site functions may then work differently.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a search request to the selected partner
  • Maintaining reliable and timely page delivery
  • Finding and correcting technical faults
  • Measuring which content visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Howard County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to official custodians, including the Howard County Sheriff, County and District Courts, Nebraska State Patrol, and Nebraska Sex Offender Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or dossiers about other people.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the site's search boxes. Information entered there is governed by the provider's privacy policy instead of this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Howard County government, Nebraska agencies, court services, legal resources, or outside search providers. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to track activity across websites for targeted ads. We do not operate that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to these limited recipients:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search partners that process submitted queries
  • Advertising networks that serve page ads
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use standard safeguards for the information we collect. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, however, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will remove it promptly.

Your Data Rights

Depending on residence and the law that applies to a request, privacy and consumer-protection rules may provide data rights. Nebraska's Public Records Statutes, §§84-712 through 84-712.09, govern requests to public agencies, not data held by this private site. At a minimum, you may:

  • Request deletion of personal data
  • Ask what information we have about you
  • Seek correction of inaccurate information
  • Opt out of certain processing where the law provides that choice

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. Any updated version will appear here with a new effective date, so visitors should review the page periodically.
